East Lancashire Online - one of the first regional directories.
One of the first sites designed and developed by Technology For Tomorrow was a regional business directory. At the time, there was no track record for regional directories, and we suggested that the use of free registration for the database would reap dividends for the web business behind it.
A pilot site was created, and the local Chamber of Commerce was helpful in circulating a mailshot to its members. Within 24 hours of the mailshot's arrival, over 200 faxes had been received to apply to be listed on the database and/or to request web development work. The database now contains well over 1,000 local businesses listed by vertical market who have enjoyed free advertising for several years. Another key success has been the search engine optimisation and registration exercise which results in a phenomenal number of hits per month.
