Master & Dynamic MW08 reviews: small changes make a big difference

When a company enters a new product category, there is a good chance that will fight with the first device. Experienced headphone makers have some problems with their first true wireless earbuds. MW07 Master & Dynamic debuted in 2018, and even for that time, it has a very short battery life and an inadequate bluetooth range. The company discusses both problems with MW07 Plus while adding active noise cancellation (ANC) and other features. Now, M & D is back with another flagship model, MW08 ($ 299). The Earbud took several design cues of the three true wireless products of the company before, but a number of small seemingly increasing changes to make this best M & D Earbud.

For the first three sets of true wireless Earbuds, Master & Dynamic keep the same D-shaped design for each model. The only little outlier is MW07 sport because of its smaller size and the tr90 composite shell. Both MW07 and MW07 plus have acetate exterior in various colors and designs. With MW08, the company increases the size, produces the smallest earbuds to date. This means new buds don’t have many hardware resting outside your ears, even though they are still a little prominent.

The other main difference is the material. With MW08, Master & Dynamic switch to ceramic exterior shells with aluminum frames. Like Go MW07, the new version is one solid color instead of the acetate or vortex pattern – except for the white version, which has a silver outer ring. These two aesthetic changes create a finer overall search for MW08, which carries true wireless earbuds companies more in line with headphones in terms of design.

Aluminum ring machine around the outside of each Earbud house both antenna and on-board control. On the right side, the multi-function button lets you play / pause (single press), pass the track (double and triple press) and call the sound assistant (press and hold). There is a volume of rockers on the left earbud, and long pressing the top button activates the ambient sound while the same action on the lower control changes and dies. The two controls will default to the last ambient sound or the ANC settings you selected in the Master & Dynamic companion application. The buttons for the on-board control itself are a little smaller, which makes it uncomplicated. They are small, and you have to hold the earbuds with your other fingers when you press, which slows me a little.

Like MW07 plus, the charging case for MW08 is still made of shiny stainless steel (and it’s still a fingerprint magnet). The main difference is that the accessory is now open on the top edge instead of such a small alloid cans. Because of this change, the company must move the USB-C port to the short side on the right. The LED trio still gives you the estimated battery status for Earbuds and Case individually. There are three colors that show low, medium and high battery capacity, so you want to consult with the application if you need the right percentage.

One thing I enjoyed about Master & Dynamic Headphone Testing is the profile of the company’s voice “signature”. Details are always clear and clear and adjustment is what I explain as natural. In particular, M & D is not too tweaking things for excessive bass or painful treble. The end result is that things sound like a mixture of albums rather than what according to the headphone company will increase most of the music. For MW08, Master & Dynamic Tweak Formula, which includes adding a little bigger, 11mm beryllium-plated driver.

And that change is not a bad thing. Wide Soundstage MW08 gives “born for one thing”, plenty of space to roam – from a chaotic drum filled with staccato guitar riffs and winding bass lines. There is a texture that is almost tactile to a distorted guitar where it is as if you can feel the details in the sound of glut. Each instrument sounds like layered above the other, rather than being destroyed to a single sound source before being blown up through the earbuds. There are more low tones than on MW07 plus, but in a way that doesn’t defeat Mid and Treble. Prog-Motal GOJRIA is a heavy bass by default, but MW08 keeps things right boomi while still offer a lot of depth to everything to play in a sonic storm.

The added bass is controlled when it is necessary, like when I turn to the Bluegrass of Nickel Creek tone. All major details of MW08 come from every acoustic instrument, but the upright bass doesn’t beat. This is a background foundation that keeps organized things, but the low-end pounding tone does not defeat the guitar, violin or mandolin.

It may be difficult for the Earbud to give music the appropriate number of dimensions rather than making everything compressed. Headphone companies are getting better in recent years, but some are still struggling. With MW08, Master & Dynamic have navigated the Sonic mine, producing the best sound profile I have ever met in a true set of wireless earbuds. There were times when I forgot I was wearing an earbud and would be easily convinced this audio came from a set of premium over-ear headphones.
